Automation Technicians

Tessy Plastics Corporation is looking to grow our Automation department.  These technicians would interact daily with Tessy’s Automation group and other manufacturing groups. Responsibilities will include daily tasks and project work relating to Tessy’s automation equipment with emphasis on keeping the machines running productively and efficiently. It is a hands-on position involving various levels of automation tasks, independent and team projects.

Job Responsibilities

Level I
  • Interact with other Automation Technicians and other manufacturing groups to accomplish PM, C/Os, Minor repairs and upkeep to keep system running and basic mechanical troubleshooting and repair.

  • Communicate with team members regarding equipment condition, equipment needs and work completed during the shift.
  • Continually look for new opportunities to improve current equipment, processes and efficiencies.
  • Must keep worksites clean and orderly.  All tools and equipment should be returned to their assigned places at the conclusion of each shift.
Level II
  • Responsible for completing a combination of Level I job duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the proper training of Level Is in automation procedures and tasks.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers.
  • Interact with other Automation Technicians and other manufacturing groups to accomplish machining fabrication, complex wiring, major C/Os. Assist in running qualifications, major repairs and upper level trouble shooting.
  • Install new equipment while working with production and other departments. Follow the entire installation to make sure all automation is working correctly.
Level III
  • Train, assist and evaluate Automation Technicians levels 1 and 2.
  • Communicates with customers and vendors regarding technical automation requirements.
  • Provides input and critiques automation design systems.
  • Runs automation qualifications and does major repairs and upper level trouble shooting.
  • Makes changes/revisions to basic automation designs.
  • Assembles quotes for average automation projects such as refurbishments and repairs and executes low to mid-level project coordination assignments.
  • Foresees needs in technology training to stay current with latest and future developments relating to automation equipment and techniques.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the job specific training to include successfully completion of required exams.
    • (I) High school diploma or GED and/or a minimum of 4 years manufacturing experience.
    • (II) A college degree (AAS or above) in Automation related field such as Electrical or Mechanical engineering and/or 3-5 years of manufacturing technician experience relating to implementation and maintaining high speed precision manufacturing equipment and inspection systems.
    • (III) A college degree (AAS or above) in Automation related field such as Electrical or Mechanical engineering and/or 5+ years of manufacturing technician experience relating to implementation and maintaining high speed precision manufacturing equipment and inspection systems.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of basic hand tools.
  • Possess an attention for detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Basic computer experience/ proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering documentation (II), blueprints safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and SOP’s.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to problem solve involving several variables in working situations.
  • Participate in and successfully pass random/ pre promotion or transfer drug testing due to safety sensitive nature of job requiring a power industrial vehicle permit.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD or machine vision inspection systems.
  • Experience in machining and fabrication.
  • Previous production related training/certifications while at Tessy. Including knowledge of injection/blow molding.
  • Experience with industrial machine service and repair.
